Where’s my little bit of Heaven?
Monday, December 7, 2009 · Add a Comment (2)When you are in your home don’t you think you’re suppose to be comfortable? Shouldn’t life in your home be peaceful and the least stressful? I always thought of home as my realm away from the stressful, chaotic realm of hell that we live in. My bit of Heaven so to speak, but lately being at home has become such a nuisance.
We live in an apartment owned by the same landlord that knowingly moved my husband, myself, and our 3 children into a bedbug infested apartment. When I discovered the horror of this I took the boys and we stayed at my Mom’s. I advised my husband to demand for our deposits back because it was totally unfair that he would move us in there under those conditions. He wouldn’t even take the proper steps to correct the problem. I called the Health Department on him as well as the Fire Marshall when he called himself imitating the company Thermapure by using a propane tank and a fan to heat our apartment.
He first agreed to give us our money back, but then offered us a new apartment somewhere else that he guaranteed was “bedbug free”. What a shame. We took it because we didn’t really have the money to move anywhere else at the time. Our security deposit was only $675, and that wasn’t enough to move, plus we were paying for our wedding at the time.
Now that we live here, I really just wish we would’ve moved into the apartment that I really wanted to stay in, which is cheaper, owned by an “actual” company, and offers so much more! Here is a list of things that are wrong with this place:
Water Temperature and Pressure: The water in the shower doesn’t come out with enough force, it just drips out at times. Sometimes it becomes scolding hot, or just plain cold. It’s a rarity that the water temperature and force is just right. I can’t take a bath because being a woman with sensitive genitalia I can’t take a bath because of the exceedingly high risk of getting an infection (if you are a woman, you should know what I am talking about). So, I have to basically sit on my knees so it won’t be submerged in water or stand up to bathe.
My kitty Sahara & my sons foot lol!
Easy Access for Rodents: Not only do rodents come into our apartment through the hole around the furnace (well into I got Sahara to keep them away), they also come through a huge hole in the wall inside our cabinet. How do I know? Because the drawer that is connected to that cabinet is full of rodent droppings!
Kitchen Light: I don’t know if it’s a fuse or what, but now the kitchen light doesn’t work. We replaced the bulb and still nothing. How am I supposed to cook for my family in the dark? Thank God the stove still works!!
Other Various Items: Closet in hall missing clothes rack, cold water faucet loose, $200 for our wedding & childcare vouchers stolen by maintenance man, huge crack in our bedroom window, need I saw more?!
Yes, home is not really my Heaven right now. I already sent him a 30 day notice to make the repairs because some of the things I’ve listed, we requested him to fix in September when we moved in. Don’t get me a wrong, it’s a nice apartment from the frontal view, but it has a load of problems that comes with it!
Topics: annoyed, venting

Wow! I’m sorry that you have to deal with all of these horrors! I’m sort of dealing with the same issue but I must say that the owners actually try and resolve the problems that I incur with the house that I rent. However, it seems as though they don’t move as fast as they should but won’t hesitate to dial my number to inquire about the rent.
OMG @ rat droppings! That is NOT sanitary and can really make you sick! That landlord needs to get on his job or you definitely have the right to move WITHOUT paying rent AND receiving your deposit back.
BTW, I understand the feminine problem that you are referring to. I have the same issue and I don’t even have a shower in my bathroom. I do the exact same thing. I’m not sure about you, but for me, DOVE Sensitive Skin soap allows you to take a bath even with that condition.
I hope things work out with your living arrangements. Home should be a place of peace and and harmony.
This is why me and my mom decided to purchase our house. Our old land lord had us living like that for years. We had rodents, roaches, allowing anyone to walk in the complex. Sounds like we lived in the projects? No!
We lived in a 3 story house. Large rooms. But a lot of fixing up to do. He is a crook. He spent out rent money at bars and never fix anything. We called ‘Department of Housing’ but he only fixed some of the stuff. We had to GO!!! I was not beat for smelling and sleeping around mice.
I was not comfortable living like that.
